Volunteer Program PDF Print E-mail

You can support the local artist community by contributing your time and skills to the many diverse opportunities at the Pacific Art League. Volunteering at the Art League is also a fun, easy way to get involved with other artists and art lovers. From our origin in 1921, members have given their time and energy to help us promote the understanding, appreciation and creation of art in our community.

Commitment varies from one-time event, short-term project, and longer-term regular involvement. See opportunities list below. We also have our VIP - Volunteer Incentive Program that allows our volunteers to participate in special exhibits or earn rewards!

Opportunities:

Members are encouraged to volunteer for service on the Board of Directors or on various committees. This can provide members with a strong voice of influence in the Art League's activities.

Make an impact in the community and become part of the Pacific Art League operations team. Office Support

The Pacific Art League office is usually a very busy place, so we are always looking for Office Assistants to help out in the following ways:

  • Assist the office staff during busy times such as class registration and the first week of classes each quarter

  • Fill-in at the front desk when the office staff is on vacation or must attend meetings

  • Assist the office staff with special projects

  • Helps prepare membership mailings, such as class brochures and monthly postcards

Being an office assistant is a lot of fun and affords our volunteers a chance to interact with many artists, instructors, students, and staff!

Special Events

Most of our special events are staffed by Board Members and volunteers.  Some of the recurring special events that we need Event Assistants for are:

  • First Friday/ArtWalk Receptions

  • Annual Parties and Fundraisers

  • Palo Alto Festival of the Arts

Our special events are usually very festive social engagements and our Event Assistants work hard, but have a lot of fun!  It is a great way to meet art-minded people in the community, as well as have a good time.

Community Sites Coordinator

Our Community Sites Program is completely run by volunteers and gives member artists a chance to stage bi-monthly exhibitions at sites around the community.  Each site is managed by a Coordinator who performs the following tasks:

  • Schedules the exhibits at our annual reception

  • Visits the site to meet the site contact and become familiar with the type and size of art work required

  • Mails the exhibit information to the exhibiting artist on a bi-monthly basis

  • Handles any questions that may arise regarding the exhibits

This position requires a time commitment of only a few hours every couple of months, completely at the discretion of the volunteer.  The Community Sites program is run by the Exhibition Manager, Melissa Behravesh.

Gallery

Our Main Gallery shows monthly exhibits by our member artists and depends on our Gallery Assistants to keep the shows running smoothly.  Tasks can include the following:

  • Helping with the monthly sign-in for the Main Gallery Shows

  • Helping to hang (and remove) the monthly exhibits

  • Special projects, such as the mini-renovation of our Main Gallery or managing the crafts that we have for sale in the gallery

Marketing

We are always looking for assistants who can be on call for our many marketing activities.  These include:

  • Distributing Class Schedules, Newsletters and other marketing materials throughout the community

  • Preparing mailings of Class Schedules, Newsletters, Appeals and other materials

  • Preparing marketing displays in the windows of our building and galleries

  • Other special projects

Rental Program

The Pacific Art League offers a Rental Program to our member artists, which allows some of their artwork to be rented to our clients and the artist to receive a portion of the rental fee.  We are looking for core Program Assistants who can be on call for hanging exhibits, meeting with potential clients, preparing paper and electronic portfolios and other marketing of this program.

VIP - Volunteer Incentive Program

Although we know that volunteering at the Pacific Art League is rewarding in and of itself, we do offer a Volunteer Incentive Program.  This program allows our volunteers to track their hours and redeem a number of hours for rewards.  In addition, in some special exhibition opportunities we give priority to members who have volunteered a certain number of hours each year.  Some of the volunteer rewards are:

  • Free Classes

  • Discounted Classes

  • Free entry in Main Gallery Exhibits

  • Free Print Room Passes

If you have suggestions about how to improve our Volunteer Incentive Program, please feel free to send them to This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it
